I like the new #murraycares hashtag.
Are there any particular can items needed for the food bank?
Any canned items are appreciated but items that kids like to eat are especially helpful: spaghettios, chicken noodle, ramen.
It's good to see that discipline is down this year.
Love the #MurrayCares -- if you do a search for it, you will find a ton of stuff. Please email or text me. Remember, to tag the high school too.
Also, appreciate the timeline for observations too
The students seem to love my Twitter feed. I try to post pictures/videos anytime we are doing "cool" stuff in science.
I like the fact there are dates on the weebly for our observations. I also like the Murray cares
I love the #MurrayCares!! This will be great for the yearbook as well! I also appreciated the observation deadlines! Happy Thanksgiving!!
Glad to see discipline numbers down from last year.
I like how the focus area points out to direct questions to individual students instead of whole group questioning. This helps me out as a new teacher, and with no experience, I can use all the help I can get!
I look forward to the 5th period classes raising lots of cans! I think that is a great cause- good work.
#MurrayCares is a great hashtag!
I enjoyed the new hashtag. Murray County is a place with a strong community foundation that helps build the character in our school and students. The community will enjoy hearing great things about our school and students.
I think it is a great idea to have the students monitor their own progresses and set goals. When students believe they are in charge, the more likely they will push themselves to achieve if not exceed their goals.
As a lifelong resident of Murray County, I want to say that the hashtag #MurrayCares, is so very true. Year after year, even during a recession, this community shows up to help the less fortunate. I think that we here at Murray High can take pride in being an active player in that "care". Happy Thanksgiving!!
Good to see discipline numbers are lower. Looks like teacher absences are up a bit, which includes FMLA. Perhaps we should ask the governor to outlaw pregnancy for teachers?
I have found that I get much higher engagement when they know I'm using my "machine" to call on them than if I do it myself (app chooses random number that matches a seat number).
Great way to make EVERY student accountable while not having to be the "bad" guy that calls on them! Thanks for sharing:)
Don't be hating on all the pregnant women Bowen!
Good Idea! I have stolen your "machine" idea and created a random name generator wheel (much like wheel of fortune). The kids love it and its easy to use.
I am old school, I roll dice to determine a number. Students hate to hear that sound as my die rolls in a glass bowl.
I hope that each of you enjoy a restful holiday with your families!
I think the choice of reward for food drive is a plus...my kids got excited at that!
Student discipline looks good compared to last year. Reminder that Skillsusa will be having our Holiday Store during the Dec. 5th basketball game, please come out and support our Skillsusa Indians.
I love the sunrise picture Cindy!!
Great to see the discipline numbers are down from last year. Thanks for the notice about observations!
Having the students monitor progress and create goals is a wonderful thing if for no other reason, they become aware of where they are compared to where they need to be. Is there a standard format for having the students monitor and reflect on their learning and their growth?
For those with benchmarks, I would use the posters and give the students their individual data. Have them monitor their own progress by standard, noting improvements, and compare to the class data. Not only will the students have individual accountability, but they will also understand the value of the benchmarks and how teachers use them to plan instruction. Win, Win!
Since I have 5 media assistants during 5th, may our can donations be scaled to level the playing field? I want to win.
Can our office aides combine with the library aides? We like winning up in here too.
YES on the combining. Good luck!
I really like #Murraycares. I will be using this more often on my own social media accounts. I am glad to see that discipline issues have been down for this past month. When students are truly engaged, less behavioral issues arise.
Keep on keeping on, educators.
Thanks for the notice on observations and incentives for the food drive.
What a touching letter at the beginning!
I really like that part about having students monitor their own progress. When students can "see" how they are progressing, it can be a huge motivator.
#MurrayCares is an awesome idea!! Jennifer, thank you for taking care of the social media.
Thanks, Wendy. It is not often I get a chance to tell you all how much I appreciate you.
Looking at the discipline data, it makes me think about the great group of Freshmen we had last year.
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.
Thanks Dana Ford for the awesome work on the benchmark posters. They are ideal for students to monitor their progress!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoys time off.
I really like to see that discipline is way down and we are trying to encourage community involvement through our hashtag.
I love this time of year too. I love our MCHS family too and am so thankful for the love and support here.
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.
Thanks to Cindy for sharing the beautiful picture!
I appreciate Mrs. Linder's thoughtful message!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful, refreshing Thanksgiving holiday! Also, Mr. Thornton I really like your point about goal setting. I think it is important and beneficial for students to set goals.
I love the new hashtag idea #MurrayCares. As a parent, it is important to show parents that we care and want their child/children to succeed.
Glad to see a drop in discipline!
I am impressed that there is so much writing across the curriculum. The students understand and retain more when they have to explain it in words, and, as teachers, we can monitor how much they actually understand, or even pinpoint where they are missing the concept. HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!
Have a great thanksgiving
#MurrayCares sounds like a wonderful idea. Hope everyone has great, restful break. Looking forward to learning new literacy strategies when we come back!
Everyone have a great Thanksgiving! May God bless your time with your family and friends.
Happy Thanksgiving and "Yes We CAN Do It.
I am a little late!!!!! Really needed a break to catch up with things! I really am trying to incorporate writing, so I had them do a formal paper with a lab write-up and I had less than half turn them in. I told them I would count them for a test grade, so they would take it seriously! It ended up giving them a zero for a test grade and dropped their averages significantly. I hope they care enough to learn that they can't be lazy when it comes to these formal writing assignments? Has anyone experienced this problem as well? Any suggestions?
Ruth, one suggestion would be to help the students understand that the reason for the assignment is "more than a grade." They need to see the relevance of writing in Science and how it will impact them in their future careers. The "connection" is the key, I think.
That is a beautiful picture! It's awesome that the discipline rates have lowered.
It is definitely good to see that disciplinary referrals are down. Truth be told: I have definitely seen some improvement in student behaviour from last year to now. We are definitely doing something right in that regard :)
