Student attendance: There are 3 students in my classes who have missed 10+ days. I'm unable to reach them by phone or email, so I turned their names in to their counselor and Dr. Greeson.

I also have several students who have been frequently absent this year. I have called home and been able to get in touch with parents for the most part.

Attendance issues occur most often in my seventh period. The students leave earlier in the day. I have notice a rise in absenteeism due to the removal of wisdom teeth!

I was kind of taken aback by the same stats as Ms. Bruce (attendance). I have some students, who've missed several days as well, but these have been accounted for--for the most part.

Yes there is a problem with attendance and the Seniors are a problem. We have been working on getting them here and I have been talking to them about finishing out the year strong. They know the importance of their Senior year and hopefully I can help keep them focused!

The quote is very true. We have no idea who we influence on a daily basis. Hopefully we are leaving "good" tracks to follow! I like the focus on attendance this early on and hope we can help eliminate and or reduce absences.

I'm not sure yet. It will depend on where I have to put it in the parade. My dad is pulling it, and Mac will be riding complete with a "dress up" dress and tiara. I'm sure Isabella will ride with my mom either up front or on the back.

I was a little shocked by the certified attendance numbers at first, but then I remembered some special circumstances we had at the beginning of the school year that contributed to that number. We do the best we can when "life gets in the way" of our jobs. I hope that the rest of the school year will be smooth sailing for us all.

Like several of the others, the attendance was a startling figure. I have only had one issue with one student missing a significant amount of days, so I was not aware of this being a larger issue. It is always good to reference statistical data. I find it very informative and helpful!!!

There has also seemed to be evil illnesses that have attacked the faculty. My hope is that the worst is behind us!

I was very curious why the disciplinary problems are worse in October than all the other months in school. Is it because of homecoming and other school events during that month?
Reply
Gina Linder
10/15/2014 12:51:26 pm
The trend data for October is actually something we have noticed happening for the past 7 years. The PBIS and Leadership teams have discussed this trend and feel like two things happen in October: 9th graders start testing their boundaries and step discipline starts to "catch-up" with students. We have, however, come a LONG way with student behavior the past seven years!

Not only was it a difficult start to the year for us all because of certain events, it still is difficult for many as they struggle to come to terms with these things. Even though we all have more to do than we can do usually and we kind of get tied up in our own world, I like the fact that most realize that there are people hurting and struggling around us and are there for those people (co-workers, students) daily.

I think it is helpful to review information this way before we have faculty meetings. It helps us be prepared and keeps the meetings from lasting as long. I was surprised by the faculty attendance. We don't miss unless we have to, so it shows how many have had issues to deal with already this year.

I may have confused some of you about the new process. The information in the presentations is not information we will be discussing at the faculty meetings anymore, so you don't really need it in advance of the meetings. In previous years, the information in the presentation would have been shared at the monthly faculty meeting after the main presentation/activity, which added 15-20 more minutes onto the meeting.

The faculty attendance data is unsettling but considering the different illnesses that have been going around it is probably related to that. Student discipline referrals being down is always a positive. I enjoy this type of faculty meeting also and being able to go back to the info if I need it is good because sometimes you are so tired during the faculty meeting that you might miss something.
