I appreciate all of your feedback related to Twitter! I have found a wealth of educational information on Twitter. I found a list of Critical Words Students Must Know for Common Core & Standardized Tests.
I know that our ELA teachers are teaching many of these words - Make sure you INCLUDE the words that apply to your curriculum in your daily class discussions & instruction! How are the rest of you incorporating DOK leveled vocabulary in your instruction? SHARE....SHARE....SHARE!!!

I like the list. It will help students to understand exactly what the question is asking them to do, especially on the free response questions.

I use these words in my classes when we are doing thinking maps. These are the key words that the students associate with the type of map to do and what they are doing.

Ditto on the Thinking Maps! I have had them use the key words to tell me what map they they think we should do or match up the map we are using to the key word.

I think that list is very helpful! When I use words like these during instruction/for directions on their independent work, some students will say "Mrs. Adams, why do you have to use such big words?" I will then try explain it in another way and they say "why can't you just say that from the beginning?" I try to explain to them that these are the types of vocabulary they will see on the GA Milestone. I think many of us just assume that students understand these words when they really don't.

Same here! The students get frustrated sometimes when I use the "big words," but the more they hear it and use it, the better off they will be. I use the vocabulary from the standards and make sure to write my essential questions to include these words and words from the standards and DOK wheel. I refer to the standards and EQ throughout the lesson.

Yes, thinking maps are excellent ways to incorporate these words. I think I might make some kind of poster to hang in my room so the vocabulary will be handy.

Wendy...Great idea!! This type of poster would be an excellent anchor poster. We have the 2 different poster machines in the Media Center.

That is a good idea to let them choose the Thinking Map to be used.
