GOFAR (Georgia Online Formative Assessment Resource) has replaced OAS. As recommended by the state, we will start using GOFAR to help prepare the students for the Milestones. I know it's hectic, but take a glance at the test questions and resources available in GOFAR:
Below is the Teacher Quick Start Guide - Click on the guide - I have it linked to website so that you can make a copy of it. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK

Regardless of what subject you teach (even math), you have to model and train students to read with questions in mind. Giving the students a passage/article/paragraph to read and asking them questions, isn't an effect teaching strategy.
I am going to share some strategies from the Texts & Lessons for Teaching Literature, by Harvey "Smokey" Daniels. EXCELLENT RESOURCE for any subject. If you would like to borrow or check out the book, I have a copy and so does the library. The strategies are already planned & tell you what to say!
Below is a PALS Checklist for the students to use as they are reading with their partner. This helps students stay on track and provides them a structured outline to follow. The descriptions/steps are easier to follow compared to the powerpoint. If you would like copies, please let me know. I can make and laminate them for you. Thank you Ashley Summers for sharing! We have now rolled out 2 important teaching strategies/resources: Thinking Maps & PALS
Please post your comments related to the December Faculty Focus on this specific post.
Thank you for commenting on the first topic.....DIFFERENTIATION. If you haven't posted, please do so & SHARE! Our first topic is DIFFERENTIATION. I know you have heard about "it", read about "it", and probably had panic attacks about "it". "It" is also a TKES standard that impacts your evaluation, so how do you differentiate?? There are so many ways. SHARE, SHARE, SHARE, & spread your differentiation knowledge. I noticed Will Queen using tiered differentiation during one of his lessons. It's a great way to reach all learning levels. What is "Tiered Differentiation"?
SHARE HOW YOU DIFFERENTIATE! If you have an assignment, give/email it to me so I can post! Before I explain the heading of this post, I would like to say THANK YOU to the MCHS faculty!!! I am appreciative of your participation & excited about the professional learning community you created by sharing your opinions, ideas, strategies, etc. on this website. If you are NOT commenting/sharing - it's never too late! SOMETHING NEW: Each week, I will post a topic that I would love for you to comment &/or give examples of how you have used it in the classroom. Some of the topics will be technology, specific TKES standards - meaning: things you can do to earn a III or IV, Thinking Maps, poverty, etc. It's an excellent way to have professional learning without meeting or leaving.
I will post the first topic tomorrow! The topic will be open 1 week for you to comment. So PLEASE, PLEASE, comment and share your thoughts. I will be sending gratitude your way in the form of jeans, me covering your class, or leave early :) I am at a professional learning meeting today. If you need your survey log in information, I will be back in my office around 6th period today.
Just as we have done in the previous years, you should be keeping up with your PLU hours. I have to turn in your documentation to the Central Office. REMEMBER: 10 hours = 1 PLU You can gain PLU hours by
Below is the form if you need one. I also have it under the tab, "useful handouts".
For those of you giving TKES Student Surveys this week:
