When she was talking about the frame of reference, that helped me, and I think most of the math teachers, but I'm still not 100% on it. I might just be over thinking it..

I agree- I feel more comfortable about the frame of reference than I did before. I would like for us to have more content specific training. I think that would be more beneficial because sometimes I have a hard time relating it specifically to math.

I think next time, if we do this again, it should be separated by departments.... that way we can ask her specific questions about our content, especially since math is at times more difficult. But, I did get a lot of good ideas from Kristie about how to better incorporate them into my lessons-- I just would have wanted to have more time asking questions. I wouldn't mind going to a Professional Learning during the summer on TM's

I agree with Mrs. Plemons, I believe it would be a lot more helpful for all teachers if it was separated. The Tree Map of what goes in the Frame of Reference really helped me understand it more though.

Yes, this is a good idea. I think all of us would greatly benefit from seeing SPECIFIC ways that thinking maps can be adapted to the subject and material we are teaching, rather than more hypothetical uses and discussions of the terminology.

I have to agree with this. I think breaking it up by subject would help give better examples. It will also allow us to ask questions. I would add that she needs to focus on higher level thinking maps instead of elementary concepts.

Same here. I believe that different subject areas would use different thinking maps with different frame of references.

Yes, Mrs. Plemons has the right idea. Tailoring specific maps to specific content,curriculum, and class activities makes better sense.

I think it would be more beneficial if each subject area could see their actual curriculum being used for examples. The more examples we can see being demonstrated in our specific content areas the better understand we will gain on how to implement thinking maps more affectively.

I thought the training was really good. The pieces about the frame of reference and the bridge map REALLY clarified things for me. I would like to have more content-specific time for learning, but overall it was really beneficial to me. She was also very gracious when I went back to her with questions/concerns.

I guess it would help if I actually included a comment. I liked the "pinch" chart or whatever it was called, and I agree that more content specific training would be beneficial. :-)

I like the idea of more content-specific training, but I also like to see how other departments are using them as well. Seeing specific examples for topics helps tremendously. She mentioned using the maps to write from, and I would also like to see examples of that in action.

I like the comment use different map for different types of learning and always frame it up so we use metacognitive thinking skills

I like the "bookmark" type strip that had key words on the back. We had a department meeting last week, and Mrs. O'Dell was helpful showing us examples of TMs for our subject area. During our meeting with the other Christy, I got confused when she was using Mrs. Dotson's class as an example.

TM are great! Useful in every class for every topic/activity/assignment. The strips were the best idea I have seen. Made matching up key words with exact map to use very simple.

Other than analogies, I would like to see examples and uses of the bridge map. It is the only one I have been having trouble implementing within English.

I think at the start of next year, I am going to select maybe 4 students from each class and conduct a little more intensive training on TMs with them in the beginning ... this way, they can assist others in the room and help champion TMs, because at this point the only drawback sometimes is a little grumbling from the masses when we do one. If I can get buy-in from some 'class leaders', there should be buy-in from most everyone (besides those who might complain if you gave them a $100 bill because it isn't "crisp").

The frame of reference has been the biggest obstacle for me. I think training as department would be more beneficial.
