Using writing across the curriculum helps students prepare for the writing test. In Ms. Plott's room, we make students answer all questions in sentence form. We move toward complex sentences at the end of the year.

In Mrs. Adam's room we have students write on assigned topics 3 times a week. Students are also given a paragraph where they are to find, and correct grammatical errors.

Making students write the steps used to finding their answers to a problem. Also making students explain their answer and what it means.

I have my English 10 students write 3 times a week about one or two assigned topics, and I periodically have my drama students complete a Writing Across the Curriculum assignment.

We have discussed how we could use them to organize our thoughts like when writing a story or composing for the Writing Test when we are working with the various Thinking Maps. We have built upon each map with a suggestion so that as the maps grow, their knowledge on how to use them to build their ideas grow.

We have used Thinking Maps to organize thoughts and had assignments that required written, complete sentence, answers.

I have given examples of previous papers from past writing tests; provided assistance with developing papers; taught the elements of a good persuasive essay, and modeled thinking maps as a method to prepare/plan out paper.

Bubble Maps are great for quick brainstorming ideas before you write. Speaking with students individually helps them recognize errors in their writing. Also, having them read aloud their written sentences with mistakes assist in the learning process.

Avery...I'm glad the Bubble Maps have helped students catch their mistakes! I also liked the topic you used to introduce your Double Bubble Map. Compare your student created maps to the ones Charles Longmire collected. Both classes gave me a laugh!
