Looks like October and November of last year were big months for office referrals...hopefully, this year won't see such a jump. Don't forget to welcome our new Custodians Tuesday! I'm sure they are nervous about changing schools.

Glad this focus addressed the issues with student behavior, tardies, and attendance. I constantly reference our Indian Pride model to students.

I am so excited to have the new custodians on Tuesday. It will be nice to have people who take pride in their work. I think if custodians are assigned certain rooms they will take care of them better.

I'm glad the behavior issues are a focus. There are too many kids in the halls after the bell.

Good to see referrals have decreased. I agree about tardies, after 9th lunch seems to be an issue as well.

I have noticed as well that there are lots of students in the halls after bells. After lunch for 9th grade is a challenge with the amount of time we have.

I am glad a focus area is to increase rigor. While I still have lesson, I want discussion to revolve around the students and let them use their own critical thinking skills to learn and explain their reasoning behind their thoughts.

Excited to have custodians as a part of the MCHS staff! Also happy to have SRI scores to start differentiating more effectively. The new writing rubric for across the curriculum is something that, as an English teacher, I am excited about!!

I have seen a lot of students out in the hallways after the bell, especially after lunch periods. Hopefully this can be fixed before referrals are issued.

Excited for a new year at MCHS! I see the rigor in the inclusion classrooms, and I'm glad that the focus on rigor is not just on the struggling students, but gifted students and those in between, as well.

Hoping to see the MOY SRI go up and that the 9th and 10th graders just had a "summer slump". Was FMLA factored in on certified absences?

There are already some attendance issues with seniors in my classes. The same handful of students are missing 5+ days. I'm sticking to the 5 day make up rule and hoping that helps. I have been surprised by the number of students who come late to class (during the day--not late to school) and can't believe it when I write them up! Let's work together and be consistent on student expectations. :-)

Like Dr. Longmire, I agree that I have loved the new custodians already! They have been doing an excellent job in their first week. I do like that behavior referrals are down, but I do think that we need to get a handle on the late students with consistencies with lunch detentions and parent phone calls.

I have increased rigor well beyond what I demanded last year. Some of my students hate it; some of my students take advantage of the opportunity and really push themselves. I hope to maintain a classroom that isn't just "an easy class," but is a place of hard work and determination.

Thinking about rigor and student achievement.... to borrow from Harry Wong...He who does the work does the learning. I have, and continue to strive for me to do less and the students to DO more. I tell my students all the time "We're not doing this stuff so I can get better. It is about you getting better". Granted, the band has more incentive because they have go out and perform in public. Motivating students to do something is probably the hardest thing teachers do.

Since I am new to the county, I think it is great that we give staff a reward for perfect attendance. Building moral around the school is a great way to lowering staff absenteeism.
