Lexile Inspired Seating Chart - Literacy Focused Classroom

Coach Lusk used student Lexile scores to create the above seating chart for her 9th Lit. inclusion class.

                                                                     I LOVE this chart because:
  • Students are sitting next to their PALS partner - the class roll is split so that a high scoring student is partnered with a mid scoring student
  • Not only are they already sitting by their PALS partner, but they are also (strategically) placed in cooperative learning groups of 4 according to their Lexile scores
EX:  (refer to the highlighted scores) Savannah & Justin have high/high-mid scores & are grouped with                       Chelsea & Alex who have low-mid scores

SMART Strategy - Chaos/Disruption is minimized because students don't have to move for partners/groups - Student frustration is minimized because a "high scoring" student is not doing all the work - Students feel more comfortable reading out loud with students who are closer to their reading level

                                * Share how you group students using various types of data! *

What a great idea, Coach Lusk! PALS partner--check. Flexible grouping for differentiation--check. Classroom management--check. TKES support--check! Thanks for sharing!
