I hate to see that student attendance is so bad, it is the same students all the time.
Great benchmark analysis! Many students commented on the rigor of the benchmark, I feel that this is taking us in the right direction.
I will be curious to see what the discipline referrals will look like for February because several of my students have been in ISS. On a positive note, several of my students were featured in the video and have commented on watching/being in the video.
Some good news, some bad news...
I like the idea of the video and think it is a good way to spread positive vibes among students as well.
I agree with Adams' comment about benchmark: glad to see students noticing an increase in rigor.
What is the Cinema Drive?
I was wondering the same thing.
Cinema Drive is a presentation on safe driving decisions. It is interactive with virtual reality goggles so they can truly feel the consequences of bad decisions in a vehicle.
The video was a great idea, and really brought some joy to the students involved
The video project was great! When is the next one?
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand the 2 student attendance slides. Is the first slide a percentage? If so, shouldn't the numbers match the next slide?
Student Attendance is a major concern-- we need to figure out why students are perfectly fine with missing as much school as they do and how can we get them to change their mind and WANT to come to school....
I agree, Plemons! There is no way to hold them accountable for absences. We need to find an incentive or solution.
I am glad I am not the only one who is wondering what the cinema drive is?
Great job on the SRI scores.
I am hoping we can make it to winter break without the flu epidemic hitting us.
SRI scores look promising.
Sickness is really taking a toll on MCHS. Hoping the rest of us can stay healthy and make it to Winter Break.
January was a rough month for the teachers with 75.5 absences!
Love song show around the corner
It's good to see the SRI scores have improved
SRI increases promising.
Art class has the second best seat in the building for the Love Song Show. I look forward to hearing the students!
The attendance is very concerning. Several students miss school very often. As far as testing, it's also concerning to see the differences between students taking honors courses and those not when it comes to attendance and commitment to learning. I know that more self motivated students take honors courses even if they are gifted but what can be done to get more students excited about learning again?
I agree! Attendance is very concerning!
Rigor...I do think the rigor is increasing school-wide. As Brittney said, this is a step in the right direction. I hope the questioning book will help me in this area. I am glad the benchmarks are becoming more important. I really do think the benchmarks will help to prepare our students for the Milestone.
Looks like the SRI scores are heading in a positive direction
Yes, good to see that the SRI scores are on the rise.
I am glad to see parents are being held accountable for their students attendance. I am very pleased to see that student referrals are going down.
I would have loved to see the students watch the video! Such a motivation! Thank you everyone who made that possible!!
I wish I could have seen the students too! I am sure it would have been inspiring for the teachers to get to see the student's faces!
What is the Cinema Drive???
Though BenchMark data looks bleak for Physics, I agree with Brittney Adams about students buying in to the new rigor focus. They all talked about how tough the test was, but they are starting to understand that there is not a "we'll just get by, somehow" mentality. They are beginning to take their work more seriously, because they know they'll be evaluated on it and required to THINK about what they need to do.
SRI gains are looking good!
Really looking forward to the Love Song show (and winter break!)
Hopefully winter break will help with some of the sickness we are experiencing.
I don't like the fact that our faculty has missed so many days. I understand that we all get sick and need a break, but at the same time if we expect them to be here, we do to.
Attendance is a huge issue this year, and that is coming from a new teacher. It is obvious that students are missing too much school, and it is even happening on my baseball team! Any given day, there is a student failing to come to practice for one reason or another. I know some students are legitimately ill, but I have a hard time believing that sickness would account for this many absences. Even when I remind students of the accumulating absences, there seems to be no change.
In terms of SRI scores, I am impressed. I have done my best to integrate reading and writing into my weekly planning, and I am seeing improvement in many students since September. My students now see a two paragraph written response as not as detrimental to their being, which is definitely progress from their reactions in September.
Let's keep challenging them, as that has been the greatest tool for me this year.
I agree about the SRI scores. Great job incorporating literacy into your class! I have seen many examples of text analysis in non-EOC classes this year. This increased focus is bound to have an effect on our literacy rates.
We can't teach students who don't come to school. Attendance is the biggest issue we face. We've got to have some type of enforceable attendance rules and consequences that the local and state boards will back us on!
Looks like discipline referrals are down.
I agree with Natalie Bruce about the attendance issues!
Thanks Mrs. Ford and everyone that made the video a reality! Let's do another one next year!
Looking forward to the love song show and winter break!!! ; )
Stemming from Natalie's comment, attendance is an issue. I think though that we will see results with the conferencing that we have been doing with attendance advisements as well as the incentives we are implementing. I am hoping we can make students more aware of how important attendance is in regards to their education.
What is Cinema Drive?
I noticed faculty absences were really high in January--75% wow!!!
On a positive note, it looks like discipline referrals are down a bit.
SRI increases are encouraging. Attendance is a problem that must be addressed. We have too many students missing multiple days.
Attendance is definitely an issue, especially for my first period class. I have several students who show up later in the day but miss first period and have double digit absences for just that period.
I asked my student in the video how she liked it and she got a huge smile and then told me how some students cried. What a great idea the video was for both teachers and students!
Looks like the Cinema Drive has a neat interactive component to it. In addition, the science part about how the brain works under the influence looks like it has made a connection with some students.
I have the same issue with the same students that consistently miss class...could we take some time in a staff meeting to brainstorm some ideas on how to handle it? I am not saying resolve it in 15 minutes but put ideas out there to help...
I'm glad to see the SRI scores going in a positive direction.
I am so proud of our lexile growth! I think the students are starting to take these assessments more seriously because teachers are discussing and using the data! I know I see more and more students carrying around library books! :)
I liked the SRI scores and the video! We definitely have to make attendance important to the students in some way, so that they care.
I like the new incentives for teacher attendance... jeans and lunch!
Happy with the SRI scores. I am also in agreement with Coach White about the teacher incentives. I am always motivated by food!!
The video made one of the biggest impacts on our students that I have seen in years.
