I know we as teachers have crazy lives, kids, and other factors, but I don't understand why our absences are that high as a faculty... I think if the students know it is ok for us to be absent, that is why they are absent as well.

I believe our attendance correlates to their behavior issues including tardiness and videos and games in class.

Attendance for staff and students is not doing so well. We have had a couple of rounds of flu/viruses though and some medical issues causing people to miss.

Student attendance is frustrating, especially when students miss days without excuses and want to have the opportunity to make-up all missed assignments. Not fair to the students that show up every day and only miss when they have an actual excuse.

I agree that the focus on rigor should increase. I have heard those exact myths in some shape form or fashion from people on the street, students and teachers at all levels and in all systems. Having expectations of performance and sticking to them is the definition of rigor. I always provide assistance to students who need that boost to understand--scaffolding doesn't diminish rigor, it just increases performance on standards.

I agree totally, Mr. Talley. It is the end result we are concerned about. If it takes a student several tries to master a skill, we should not punish them for not getting it the first time. "Did they get it by the time they left my class this year?" is the question. Never be afraid to replace a grade if the student is actually trying and finally gets it!

It always seems odd to me when I am checking lexile scores on IC and they go down from one time to the next. It makes me wonder about just how valid any of these tests really are. There so many external factors that affects a child's performance

Sometimes, I think our students are very compartmentalized about the subjects we teach. Although I have always stressed art vocabulary, art history and artists biographies, they always complain that they should not have to read and write in art.
