I'm sure many of you have seen your students with their Math INB's, which were introduced and implemented in the Math classes at the beginning of the year.
Students are engaged in class, becoming more organized, and accountable for their learning! Basically, students are creating their own textbooks filled with what you deem important - vocabulary, notes, practice problems, Thinking Maps, etc! If you are interested in finding out more about them or how to use them in your class, let me know by commenting. I'd love to see MCHS using them in all content areas! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or a Math teacher how they work. A great time to begin using them would be at the beginning of the semester - I could easily set up a workshop where you can get started right away. It is so simple!!

It is now possible to view 2014-2015 Milestones data for your current students in SLDS! When you login, you should be able to click on one of your classes and find Milestones data from last year. You can dig all the way down to the domain to get information on your students' achievement. I have come across some instances where only data from 2013-2014 is available and have passed that information on so hopefully everything will be released from the state soon.
Ms. Zeigler turned in her analysis today and agreed to let me share just how easy it was to gather the information and complete her analysis- she said it took no time at all! A quick copy of the chart puts all of your data at your fingertips. No extra work for you!! The information is all there and she can clearly use it to remediate and check for mastery. Her analysis is clear and concise and explains exactly how she plans to remediate and increase student mastery of the standards. Hope this helps!! Thank you for sharing, Shelby :-) The Benchmark Analysis sheet has been added to the Useful Handouts page for your convenience!
New definitions of the Achievement Levels and clarification of EOCT levels vs. MIlestones levels are listed below. Please share with students and discuss before we send scores home so they will understand how their previous scores stack up against the Milestones Achievement Levels. This will go a long way in clearing up any concerns with the drop in scores from EOCT to Milestones. The "Distinguished Learner" and "Proficient Learner" students would have typically had previous scores meeting the "Exceeds" level of achievement. Those scoring "Proficient" or "Developing" on the Milestones would most likely have been a student who "Met Expectations" the previous year and those scoring "Beginning Learner" on the Milestones would have been those students who "Did Not Meet" expectations on the EOCT.
Mrs. Owens has been kind enough to share a form she uses when posting student work. I hope you find it useful! You can click on the link below or on the "Useful Handouts" page.
GOFAR (Georgia Online Formative Assessment Resource) has replaced OAS. As recommended by the state, we will start using GOFAR to help prepare the students for the Milestones. I know it's hectic, but take a glance at the test questions and resources available in GOFAR:
Below is the Teacher Quick Start Guide - Click on the guide - I have it linked to website so that you can make a copy of it. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK Regardless of what subject you teach (even math), you have to model and train students to read with questions in mind. Giving the students a passage/article/paragraph to read and asking them questions, isn't an effect teaching strategy.
I am going to share some strategies from the Texts & Lessons for Teaching Literature, by Harvey "Smokey" Daniels. EXCELLENT RESOURCE for any subject. If you would like to borrow or check out the book, I have a copy and so does the library. The strategies are already planned & tell you what to say!
