During a TKES awareness walk, I will always rate the following standards out of the total 10: (Listed in parentheses are some of the things I will look for related to each standard) Performance standard 2: Instructional Planning (I will look at past & present lesson plans - every element of the plan, I will look at the data in your teacher portfolio - did you use data to assist you as you plan for instruction, when appropriate) Performance standard 3: Instructional Strategies (I will focus on how you are delivering instruction - are students actively engaged, are you including DOK words in your instruction-apply, create, etc., did you reference the standard(s) & E.Q., how did you summarize the lesson) Performance standard 4: Differentiated Instruction (If the current lesson is not differentiated, I will look at your previous plans to see that you are differentiating instruction 1-2 a week) Performance standard 5 or 6: Assessment Strategies/Assessment Uses (How are you assessing the students during the lesson (formative assessments) - Are you asking individual students questions and increasing the rigor by asking them to explain/justify their answers - During class discussions, stay away from whole group questioning the majority of the time! Every student needs to be held accountable for knowing the material. (If observing at the end of the lesson, what type of TOTD did you use) If rating assessment uses, I will look for evidence that you grouped students using data - might be noted on the differentiation template &/or needs-based template, &/or a list of students grouped for PALS by Lexile scores, &/or students grouped by any type of assessment data - might be listed on your lesson plan template. Performance standard 7: Positive Learning Environment (I am observing your classroom management - are students on task, if there are disruptions, do you respond in a timely manner - overall, is it clear that classroom expectations & rules are established) If you haven't stopped by to check out the new lesson plan template, please do so. I think you will appreciate the changes.
Happy Birthday to Brittany Ingle! I accidentally left her name off the September birthday list. Her birthday is tomorrow :)
Several teachers have requested a "crash course" on the new grade book in Infinite Campus. Mrs. O'Dell has graciously volunteered her time to answer your questions. If you would like to attend, it will be next Wednesday, Oct. 1 @ 3:30 in Mrs. Odell's room. Please be on time and have your questions ready.
I added the schedule that tells you when grades are due & report cards go home. Click on the "Important Schedules" tab to find it. You have had concerns and been overwhelmed! The Central Office listened and gave permission to make some adjustments. After a few hours, I finally finished the modified lesson plan template so that it is more teacher friendly. Stop by my office for a brief overview. That way we will not have to meet :) If you notice on the Thinking Maps Schedule, the Tree & Brace Maps are introduced on Wednesday - Oct. 1 & Oct. 8. The Tuesday before each of those days include a field trip for sophomores and grades being due. The trainers didn't want to schedule a roll out on those days. An announcement will be made the day before they are going to be introduced. Remember to teach the vocabulary associated with each map. The handouts you will need are on this website under the tab, "Useful Handouts".
Make sure that you are following the new Collaborative Planning Protocol and completing the new template as you hold your department meetings. Department Meetings must be held once a month.
The new template is located in the "Useful Handouts" tab on this website. There a place for regular & inclusion teachers to sign. Department Heads...Make sure you always discuss the following during your meetings:
Each teacher needs to keep a copy of the completed template in the "Data" section of their teacher portfolio. Inclusion teachers must attend the subject department meetings of the classes they are included. If you have more than one prep, alternate when you attend that subject. For example: Coach Lusk includes in ELA, Math, S.S., & Science - She would attend an ELA meeting one month, a S.S. meeting the next month, a Math meeting the next month, a Science the following month, & start over. Thank you to all of you who shared what strategies you have used to help prepare students for the writing test. As Mrs. Linder commented, I can see why MCHS has a 92+ pass rate on the GHSWT every year. The ESS, ELA, & Math Departments had teachers share their strategies. Way To Go!! Science & S.S. Departments - I hope to see future comments from your teachers. I decided to give pizza to all those who commented. Delyn Lusk, Brittany Adams, Melissa Adams, Lisa Winters, Anita Scott, Hannah Mayo, & Avery Hamilton plan to have pizza for lunch next Monday, Oct. 29. I will order it and have it here around 11:30 in my office. Mrs. O'Dell found this descriptive sheet for every type of Thinking Map. I really like the way it includes the "Thinking Process" you want the students to grasp, lists the Purpose and Key Words. This is a great plan to follow. I will post the others for the rest of the maps under the "Useful Handouts" tab. The first person to comment & share how they plan on using the Double Bubble Map gets to choose from one of the 3: Extra planning - I will cover one of your classes GOOSE Pass - Get Out of School Early Jeans Pass - Wear Jeans anyday w/MCHS attire There seems to have been some confusion about the roll out of the Bubble Map. It was listed on the schedule to be introduced today, but I realized that I didn't send you the Vocabulary words that go along with that map. I apologize - please find time to introduce the map to your 2nd period class at some point this week.
The trainers and I scheduled some of the roll outs on a Monday because we thought you might not have as much time on Advisement/Club days. We also wanted to make sure that the folks with 2nd period planning had their entire planning to enter grades since they are always due on a Tuesday. Make sure you check the hard copy of your schedule or take a glance at it on this website under the tab - "Important Schedules". I am going to create a tab called "Useful Handouts". I will be placing various handouts in it that you might need. All grades should have been entered for your SLOs last Friday with the exception of Adv. Alg. & Conceptual Physics. I requested that you email me letting me know that you have entered your grades. I only received 9 emails.
Mr. Queen, Mr. Wheeler - Technology is working on fixing your course numbers so they will match the SLOs. I will let you know when it is fixed. Mr. Vest - Ann Scott will let us know how GAA SLO scores will be entered. I will let you know when it is fixed. If you have a question or your having difficulty with entering your grades, please post a comment. Just added the "Important Schedule" tab for you to use as a reference. So far, I have posted the BM, Thinking Maps, & GA Milestones/SLOs schedules.
